Rejected Princesses: The Master List of Historical Women in Combat

Warning: Some of the women on the list are accompanied by Disney-ish illustrations depicting them in combat, including blood and a beheading.

I just browsed through this really quick, but I'd like to read more of it later. My favorites of the ones that have pictures are:

  • Tsuruhime Ohori (her short bio makes her sound a bit like a Tamora Pierce heroine)
  • Ching Shih, a prostitute turned pirate
  • Mariya Oktyabrskaya - "when husband was killed by Nazis, sold belongings, bought a tank, named tank Fighting Girlfriend, started killing Nazis"
