Dragonsinger - Anne McCaffrey

Yup, I'm finished already. I still prefer it to Dragonsong, although I noticed some of the more problematic elements this time around. I'll have to think about the bits with Camo. As far as Menolly goes, I wish she hadn't been the only girl in Harper Hall with musical talent. The other girls were awful, for the most part too concerned with boys, clothes, and rank to practice. If Robinton was such an open-minded Masterharper, you'd think he'd have found a few other girls besides Menolly who had a genuine love of music and a desire to learn more and improve.

I have enough nostalgic love for this book to still enjoy the ending, but I imagine that I'd be a bit less tolerant of it if this were my first reading. Menolly was

only at Harper Hall for a week before being promoted to journeyman. How was there not an outraged uproar among the other apprentices?
