The Goblin Emperor - Katherine Addison

The problem with a good book is that it can be hard to figure out what to do after it's over.

Although on the surface they're not at all alike, The Goblin Emperor reminded me an awful lot of Ann Leckie's Imperial Radch trilogy. The level of compassion, the amount of attention paid to linguistic and cultural details, the way the main character gradually went from being alone to forming strong positive relationships of various kinds (the declaration of friendship near the end made me cry happy tears) - all very similar.
