Reading progress update: I've read 352 out of 391 pages.

The Player of Games - Iain M. Banks

We'll see how the next 40 pages go, but at the moment:

- I loathe Gurgeh, but not for any specific thing he's done. Maybe for his whole self. He rubs me the wrong way. And unfortunately I'm still not sure if this is intentional. Are there readers who like and/or admire this character?

- At one point, Flere-Imsaho indicates that Gurgeh has changed, been affected by Azad (both the game and the Empire). But then Gurgeh

plays as the Culture.

(show spoiler)

I'm not sure both of these things can be true.

- I think Gurgeh's final game may have gone beyond my ability to suspend my disbelief.

Still not sure what rating I'm leaning towards.
