The Book of Deacon - Joseph Lallo

How long would it be possible for someone to walk around and have sensible conversations while suffering from an infected wound (swollen, red streaks)? Myranda's wound was infected when she first met the rebels, they took one look at it and told her she was definitely going to lose her right arm, and then they sent her on a four or five day walk with a bit of water and some rations. Now she's at the home of someone who might be able to heal her, but she's rather not talk to him about it right away, because he's grumpy. The wound only seems to affect her in that it hampers her ability to move that arm.
