Scary fandom

Gah. That feeling when you're considering trying a game (or book, TV series, etc.), but it only takes a peek to realize that the fandom is currently a terrifying active dumpster fire. I have a particular example in mind right now, although it isn't the first time that scary fandom made me hesitant to try something (like that one time I just wanted to know which sub-series of a TV franchise I should start with first *sob*).
