I'm a librarian who loves anime, manga, and reading a wide variety of genres.
Meh. I can't pinpoint anything truly terrible about it, but I had trouble staying interested.
Pru and Christopher first met in the previous book. Considering that Pru was originally established as someone who had avoided close ties with others for most of her life, it seemed a bit odd that, by this book, she and Christopher were in the blushing and constant "my darling" stage of their relationship. The two of them did get a bit easier to bear by the end of the book, but I don't love them enough to want to read another book about them.
The mystery was okay, I guess. Pru spent most of the book trying not to butt in too much, after Christopher's multiple lectures in the previous book (the gist: "you're not a cop, so stop trying to take part in the investigation"), and when she did butt in, she did her best to keep the police informed about what she'd learned. Unfortunately, I had trouble staying interested in the mystery, which also meant I had trouble following along with the details.
I think the narrator must have a bit of trouble with Pru's accent. I thought there was more Texas in it in the previous book, but she sort of slid out of it in this one.
I don't plan on continuing with this series. I'm debating between a 2 and 2.5 star rating for this.
