Grumpy reader or tough grader?

I honestly don't know. Maybe in 2014 I should loosen the death grip I have on my 5 and 4.5 star ratings, because these were the only books/stories (not counting manga) I read or listened to in 2013 that I rated that highly:

  1. My Fair Concubine (Harlequin Historical) - Jeannie Lin
  2. Going Postal - Terry Pratchett
  3. The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer - Siddhartha Mukherjee
  4. Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened - Allie Brosh

It's somewhat reassuring that my list of 1 and 0.5 star books/stories is only slightly longer:

  1. Lady Mechatronic and the Steampunked Pirates - Arabella Wyatt
  2. Gamer Girl - Mari Mancusi
  3. Fire & Ice (Lost Realm, #2) (Volume 2) - Kate Aaron
  4. Jaynell's Wolf (A Wizard's Touch) - Amber Kell
  5. The Dangerous Days of Daniel X - James Patterson
